New York Botox & Filler Training Options

NY Course DiagramAs a practice offering cosmetic injectables it is advisable to offer patients a variety of options to meet their individual needs. In the case of cosmetic injectables, one size does not fit all. Each product offers its own benefits and often address different issues. For example, someone with aging hands will not benefit from Botox, but would with Radiesse. The more options your practice offers, the more you increase your patient base.
Let’s take a look at a couple of the more popular fillers.

RADIESSE

Radiesse is a calcium hydroxylapatite (a substance found in naturally in bone) filler that comes in a gel form. It is used to add volume to an area and in the process creates a smoother skin surface. The formula is comprised of microspheres that encapsulate the calcium hydroxylapatite.

The really exciting thing about Radiesse is that is has been found to actually stimulate the body’s own collagen production. As we age our collagen production slows down and our skin looses our elasticity. With Radiesse you get immediate improvements after the injections and also long term benefits with the stimulated collagen production.

Radiesse is typically used in applications where they are deep grooves such as nasolabial folds. It plumps up the area creating a smoother surface area. It is also used to minimize crow’s feet and hollowed out cheeks. Radiesse can even be used on the backs of the hands which can start to appear skeletal-like with increasing age.

The side effects with Radiesse are minimal and can include redness, swelling and bruising. There is also a Radiesse formula, Radiesse +, that comes combined with lidocaine to minimize discomfort during injections.

JUVEDERM

Juvederm is a hyaluronic acid that comes in injectable form. Hyaluronic acid is found naturally in the body, particularly in the skin and connective tissue. It is often used in applications to improve skin appearance because it is attracted to water and when combined with it in the body creates a gel-like substance that acts as a natural moisturizer within the body.
Juvederm harnesses the HA (hyaluronic acid) so it can be injected into specific areas in order to reduce wrinkles and fine lines. The benefits of Juvederm are incredibly long-lasting and results may last as long as a year in patients who have been treated with it.

The uses of Juvederm include plumping up cheeks that have flattened and sagged. Nasolabial folds are also a popular area for treatment as the Juvederm fills out the deep grooves along the sides of the mouth.

Juvederm can also be used to plump up lips that have thinned due to aging. The injections create not only a fuller lip, but a smoother lip surface.
Juvederm’s side effects can include firmness, swelling and redness. Most side effects are resolved within 14 days.
